MEET THE TEAM
TEDxLosGatosHighSchool is hosted by the dedicated student leaders of Unconditionally Positive (UP). UP is a student run Peer to Peer education program that focuses on creating a more accepting and positive atmosphere at Los Gatos High School.
Senior and underqualified quesadilla connoisseur Sophie is stoked to enter her third year with UP! You’ll likely find her within a five-mile radius of campus, whether she’s chiefing it up on the school newspaper, lifeguarding at the pool, competing with the Varsity swim team, serving with the Interact Club, or advising SafeRides of LG. Outside of that radius, Sophie enjoys bonding with her Subaru Outback, curating highly specific playlists, questioning existentiality, and reading Chuck Palahniuk
As a Sophomore at LGHS, Amanda is very excited to be a part of UP this year. It’s her first year and she is overjoyed to meet new people and make a positive impact on her school. Amanda rows for Los Gatos Rowing Club and spends most of her time there. She also is apart of the sports commission in Leadership and loves to plan sports events for the school. Outside of school she loves to go to the beach and hangout with friends!
As a Sophomore at LGHS, this is Kate’s first year in U.P., and she is extremely excited to plan events and spread positivity. Kate loves to play soccer and writes for The Radical magazine and the school newspaper. In her free time, Kate enjoys reading and listening to Phoebe Bridgers.
As a junior at LGHS, Letizia is very excited to be a part of UP for her first year! She’s a food lover and athlete and combines both of her passions through her service to the community. In the past few years, along with her job as a gymnastics coach, she has been working with Second Harvest as the Health Ambassador for underprivileged communities in the Bay Area. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her friends or listening to Harry styles music.
A junior at LGHS, Julie is beyond thrilled and excited to be spreading positivity through UP again this year! Aside from UP, Julie is involved with spreading awareness around teen mental health, helping students feel heard, and creating educational equity! You can find Julie at the beach on weekends, or catching up on AP physics homework and rewatching her favorite, The Queen’s Gambit! She can’t wait for all the wonderful activities UP will provide in uniting the school through positivity!
A junior at LGHS, Kirin is pumped for his second year in UP! He plays basketball and golf for the school teams, and loves to be outdoors. Outside of school, he is part of Boys Team Charity (BTC), a corporation that focuses on volunteering to better our community. In his free time, Kirin hangs out with his friends, listens to music, plays the guitar, and spends time with family by going on runs with his mom, working out, and golfing with his dad.
A junior at LGHS, Maily is pumped for her first year in UP! She is involved with water polo and swimming at the highschool. Also, you can find her leading events as Junior Class President! She loves meeting new people, the beach, ocean swims, and traveling!
A senior at LGHS, Sonali is ecstatic to be part of the UP team, for her third and final year! This year Sonali is excited to take a leadership role in the school newspaper, El Gato, Mock trial, and Model United Nations. You can find Sonali desperately trying to finish editing El Gato articles, jamming out to One Direction reading the latest NYT articles, or jogging in her neighborhood. Outside of school, she loves to debate political issues, sing, bake, and binge watch the Flash!
As a Sophomore at LGHS, this is Kennedy’s first year in U.P., and she couldn’t be more excited! Kennedy is one of the sophomore class spirit representatives and is a part of the Wildcat Dance Team. She is looking forward to working with the amazing U.P. team to create a wonderful year!
Ian is excited as he enters his senior year of high school, as well as his second year as a member of UP! He plays soccer for the Los Gatos United club and is the bass player for the LGHS jazz band. On weekends, you can likely find Ian playing downtown with his jazz quartet, the Orange Ties, or performing with his band, Suburbamore. In his free time, Ian also enjoys listening to a wide variety of music, spending time with his friends, and watching sunrises and sunsets.
As a Senior at LGHS, Tatum is looking forward to her second year in UP! At school, you can find her running school events as ASB Vice President or learning about new cultures as President of the National Spanish Honor Society. Tatum also loves debating on the Mock Trial Team, and has been a member since freshman year- serving as Co-Captain of the team last year. In her spare time, Tatum loves to research global development, take morning hikes with friends, and drink Philz iced tea!
A senior at Los Gatos High School, Bryn is excited to begin her second year on the UP team! Bryn enjoys performing for the school dancing team, running, and doing yoga. In her free time, you will probably find her playing with her dog, hiking with friends, or watching New Girl.
As a Senior at LGHS, Caden is excited to start his first year at UP! Caden enjoys tennis, having played on the school’s varsity team since freshman year, as well as being Co-Captain of the team last year. He also loves studying Japanese language and culture, and will serve as the President of the Japanese National Honor Society at LGHS this year. Outside of school, when Caden isn’t racking his brain trying to comprehend AP Chem assignments, he enjoys cooking, driving, and programming!
